The plant consolidations are the latest in an array of controversial cost-cutting measures under consideration at the Postal Service including: Slashing Saturday service,delaying delivery of some first-class mail, closing post offices and hiking the price of a first-class stamp by a nickel to 50 cents.
The Postal Service says that, if nothing is done, it faces $18 billion in losses by 2015.
The Postal Service can't close anything until May 15, after the moratorium on closures ends. The agency originally agreed to the moratorium to give lawmakers time to pass legislation to save the agency. But so far, those efforts have been slow going.
Donahoe said he would like to complete most of the consolidations, including job cuts and changes to 30,000 full-time positions and 5,000 non-career employees, by Oct. 1.

It also contends that the Chinese LCD maker has not marketed or sold its own "IPAD," or Internet Personal Access Device for years, thus possibly invalidating its claim to the trademark.
The hearing adjourned after a fractious four-hour session which saw the judge repeatedly admonishing both sides to observe proper court protocol as they argued across the courtroom. No date was announced for a judgment or further hearings.
"Apple has no right to sell iPads under that name," Xie said. "The agreement to sell the trademark is not valid under Chinese law."
Proview is suing to have Apple stop selling the iPad in China under that name. It has also sought to have commercial authorities in many cities order sales to stop. Ma Xiaodong, another Proview lawyer, said after the hearing that the company plans to file lawsuits www.fashiontoy.com against Apple in other cities.
Apple's lawyers demanded that Proview provide evidence that its product is actually marketed in China, contending that the heavily indebted Chinese company has no ability to produce the IPAD. They also demanded Proview provide guarantees it could pay compensation for any losses if the court were to halt iPad sales pending a final decision on ownership of the trademark. The Proview side said it could pay in cash.
Apple has appealed an earlier ruling against it in a court in Shenzhen, a city in southern China's Guangdong province. The Guangdong High Court is due to hear that case on Feb. 29.

Avoiding sanctions is essential to protect the Japanese financial

"We are discussing specific cases with specific countries. It would be premature to discuss any of them at this time."
Japan's Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba also said no agreement has been reached yet. Japan is offering to continue cutting Iranian oil imports but talks are ongoing,burberry ties a foreign ministry official said earlier.
One reason Japan may be reluctant to support publicly a reduction in Iranian oil imports with the same vigor as Europe is that Tokyo is worried about damaging close diplomatic ties it has had with Tehran in the past.

They have declined by more than half from 683,000 bpd in 2003, partly because Iranian oil is more expensive than other Middle Eastern crude.
If Japan cut Iranian oil imports by 11 percent from last year's level, as the Yomiuri reported, that would amount to a reduction of 34,430 bpd.
Cosmo Oil Co has already lowered its Iran crude imports to a little below 30,000 bpd from about 40,000 bpd since January, industry sources say.
Other refiners' imports are seen steady so far this year, but imports are likely to be down further from April, when most annual contracts are renewed. Japanese refiners have been awaiting instructions from the government before launching talks with Iran on annual contracts.
Although refiners need to replace Iran crude with oil from other sources, buying less Iranian oil could turn out to be beneficial because the threat of sanctions has pushed up the cost of settlements, tanker chartering and insurance.
Some Japanese refiners are negotiating with top exporter Saudi Arabia to make up for any shortfall.

A convict was suspected of starting the blaze

"We're placing them into bags in parts because when we grab them, they disintegrate," he said.
The inferno was the third major prison fire in Honduras since 2003 with dilapidated jails packed at more than double their capacity across the Central American nation.
Worried and angry relatives surrounded the prison on Wednesday morning, at one point throwing rocks at police and trying to force their way inside the prison.
Police responded by firing shots into the air and shooting tear gas at protesters, most of whom were women.
President Porfirio Lobo said he had suspended the director of the Comayagua prison and the head of the national prison system to ensure a thorough investigation.
He promised to "take urgent measures to deal with this tragedy, which has plunged all Hondurans into mourning."

Leestma contradicted the prosecution’s medical experts
Jan Leestma, a neuropathologist from Chicago, testified late Wednesday that he saw no sign of the serious brain injury that medical witnesses for prosecutors Burberry ties contend killed Love. They contend that an angry Huguely shook Love until her head banged against a wall and then left her bleeding. The right side of Love’s face was swollen, and she had an abrasion on her chin, according to testimony.
Leestma contradicted the prosecution’s medical experts. The Virginia medical examiner’s office ruled that Love died of blunt force trauma, which it attributed to whipsawing of her head or sharp torque that left her brain bruised and swollen.
Leestma said he did not see that. “I could not conclude it is trauma,” he said. Love’s brain was swollen, which was “abnormal,” he said, but the swelling could have been caused by the cutoff of air as she lay on her pillow. He said bruising in her brain could be explained by a rush of blood to her head during efforts to resuscitate her.
Huguely told police that he and Love had fought before he tossed her bleeding back into her bed and left, without calling for medical help.
Jurors on Wednesday also heard from five former Burberry ties cheap U-Va. lacrosse players who were friends of Huguely’s. They said Huguely grew increasingly drunk on May 2, 2010, progressing from missing shots during a morning golf outing to urinating in public outside a restaurant.

Huguely told them that he had been downstairs with two other teammates in another apartment and that one of them was drunk, Clausen said. Clausen said he “thought that was kind of strange” because he knew that player was working on a paper. Carroll said he called the second player, who told him he was at his home, not downstairs.
“There was no reason to lie about something like that,” Clausen said.
Francis McQ. Lawrence, one of Huguely’s attorneys, asked players whether Huguely looked “disheveled” when they saw him around midnight.

Not even a celebrity with the connections of a popular chef could have found one to buy on Thursday. On the eve of the Knicks’ home matchup with Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers, shopping therapy was not a treatment option.
At Gerry Cosby & Company, a store near the Garden that supplies the Knicks with their uniforms, the shelves were bereft of Lin gear.

The need for the LAUSD to restore public confidence is extremely important, says Jolie Logan, CEO of Darkness to Light, a Washington-based nonprofit dedicated to the prevention of child sexual abuse. But, she adds, creating a public forum for addressing the issue of child sexual abuse is also important, as it can help prevent future incidents.
“LAUSD would be wise to follow the lead of other school districts nationwide,” she says via email, pointing to the South Carolina Department of Education, “which has pledged to train 100 percent of its teachers, administrators, staff, and workforce with specialized curriculum aimed at preventing child sexual abuse.”
To date, she notes, more than 50 percent of South Carolina teachers and staff have completed the training.
